Unix
- Unix Operating System was developed by AT&T employees Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, and Joe Ossanna. in 1969
- Few versions are free but many versions are paid.
- Unix is complete operating system comes with compiler, editor and needful utilities from one Vendor.
- Most Unix versions are CUI(Character Usre Interface).
- Unix supports various file systems like gpfs(AIX), gpfs(HP-UX) jfs.
Linux
The GNU Project started by Richard Stallman in 1983 involved by many programmers including Linus Torvalds. At last after legal complications launched in 1992.
- Most versions are free only few versions are paid.
- Linux is just a kernal other applications like open office, firefox, compilers are from other vendors.
- Most Linux versions are user friendly than Linux.
- Linux by default supports ext3 or ext4 file systems.
